Oil is my primary medium, with which I enjoy building textures with two important elements: color and layer effect. My recent painting is based on an idea of ‘Free Form Construction’. It involves covering and rediscovering the landscapes of paint. Various shapes of drafting tape are first applied to the painting surface; afterwards, they are removed from the surface during the painting process. The ‘void’ marks of the removed tape bring unexpected effects that not only force me to rediscover and reconcile with the altered composition, but also to recognize my personal relationship with the vast universe. Thus, the serendipitous play of ‘Chi’, Space and Time become the core of my subject.
